21s Century warfare is notably in contrast with previous military concepts, methods, and technology, emphasizing to modernize combatants for preserving their battle worthiness. In narrowest sense, it is merely a synonym for contemporary warfare while in its widest sense, it includes all warfare including gunpowder revolution, the emphasis of artillery marked by the Crimean War, the launch of the first dreadnought in 1905, or the use of the machine gun, aircraft, tank, or radio in World War I. Conflicts of the 21st Century proved that big powers intervention has failed to end violence and create regional and global stability. There are various areas need to be explored like the relationship of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law in the conduct of military operations, technological challenges posed by new weapons systems and the function of the basic principles of IHL in the conduct of hostilities etc. This Webinar would have discussions on a number of issues like techniques of war, Humanitarian Law Jurisprudence etc. to provide law students with relevant background knowledge in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and will encourage discussions and debates on the main IHL issues arising in today’s armed conflicts.
